Arts Gold Awards

2019 ARTS GOLD FINALISTS

Arts Gold is a biennial event, organised this year by a committee representing Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery, the Central Otago District Arts Trust and the Central Otago Art Society. Artists from around New Zealand have an opportunity to enter works using a range of mediums. This year 164 entries were received from 122 artists. Of all the entries submitted, the majority were painting (including mixed media), 16.5% were photography, the balance being sculpture, ceramics and textiles. There was a good geographic spread of entries with 45% coming from the Central Otago/Queenstown Lakes region, 14% from the North Island and the remainder from across the South island.

The Judges, Dick Frizzell and Jim Geddes selected 58 entries for the finalists Exhibition. Of the successful entrants 25 came from the CODC/QLDC districts.

The opening and announcement of the 2019 Arts Gold Awards winners will be held at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery from 5.30 pm on Friday 27th September. This will be a ticketed event. A limited number of tickets will go on sale to the public on Thursday 5 September, at Central Stories Museum and Art Gallery.

On Sunday, 29th September at 10.30 am the Judges will present a floor talk discussing the decisions they made, and highlighting other works that caught their attention.
